FOREIGN INVESTOR – INDIVIDUAL - NR 60/04
(Regulates the concession of a work permit to an individual foreign investor who ha the objective of being granted a permanent visa)
Permanent visa - N/A
Objective: To allow a foreign citizen to settle down in Brazil in order to invest his/her own resources originating from a foreign source (minimum of USD 50.000) in productive activities. If the investment is inferior to USD 50.000 but is accompanied by an investment project with the objective of creating at least ten new jobs, a request for a visa can be made to the National Immigration Council which may, in certain exceptions, grant the concession of the visa.

FOREIGN CITIZEN CONTRACTED TO RENDER TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND/OR TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER SERVICES - NR 61/04
((Regulates the concession of a work permit to a foreign citizen under a technology transfer contract and/or a contract to render technical assistance services based on a cooperation or convention agreement and without employment in Brazil)
Temporary Visa - Three types of visas are foreseen:
Normal: – up to one year, extendable
Express: up 90 days non-extendable
Emergency situation: up to 30 days non-extendable
Objective: To allow the rendering of technical services and/or technology transfer for foreign firms that are established in the national territory. It does not apply to foreign citizens that enter Brazil in order to fill administrative, financial or management positions for the firm that is established in Brazil. Foreign citizens entering the country under the protection of this Resolution cannot substitute national workers. The foreign citizen cannot be an employee of the Brazilian firm.

FOREIGN CITIZEN WITH AN EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT – NR 64/05
((Regulates the provisions for the concession or a work permit to foreigners that enter Brazil with a temporary visa foreseen in art. 13, point V, of Law nr.6.815, August 19, 1980).
Temporary Visa Up to two years, extendable.
Objective: To exercise remunerated employment activities at a legal entity established in Brazil.
